A gang bang is a sexual act in which several people, often more than three, engage in sexual action with one another in any order or all at once. Although the word is often used to describe a situation in which a woman is the primary focus, it may also be used to describe a situation in which one male is involved with many women (a “reverse gang bang”).The word has become commonplace in the porn business, where it is used to describe a simulated encounter in which a woman has sexual relations with many men in rapid succession.
Although gang bangs are not unheard of in the swinger world, the larger ones are sponsored by pornographic film firms and videotaped. The term “reverse gang bang” refers to a pornographic cliché in which one guy is involved in a sexual encounter with a large number of women.
Although the exact number of persons involved in a gang bang is not specified, it often involves more than three people and may include a dozen or more. The Japanese word bukkake is often used to describe gang bangs that are planned such that all the men end up ejaculating at once or in fast succession on one man or woman.
In contrast, it is common to refer to a group of three sexual partners as a “threesome” or a “foursome” while engaging in sexual activity. Most (if not all) sexual activities during a gang bang revolve around or are done with only the primary individual, making them distinct from group sex like threesomes and foursomes. The spontaneity and anonymity of a gang bang are frequently part of the appeal, even if some of the participants know one other. In addition, although the other participants may stand about and masturbate while waiting for their turn, they do not really participate in the sex acts themselves.
Numerous gang bang pornographic films have been made since the 1980s, although they seldom have more than a dozen male participants at a time. But beginning with Annabel Chong’s The World’s Biggest Gangbang (1995), the pornographic business has released a slew of films purportedly breaking gangbang records for the most sex acts performed in rapid succession by a single person.
These films did well at the box office, receiving AVN Awards as the year’s best-selling pornographic pictures, although the ceremonies were sometimes unofficial and the claims of record-breaking achievements were often exaggerated. With just approximately 30 guys “strategically placed and filmed,” only about 10 of whom were really able to participate sexually on camera, Jasmin St. Claire called her “record,” reportedly established with 300 men in World’s greatest Gang Bang 2, “among the biggest cons ever pulled off in the porn business.”
